AFL: Gold Coast Suns rising star Peter Wright says his burgeoning partnership with co-captain Tom Lynch and fellow tall Sam Day can only get better.

The 203cm 20year-old signed a two-year contract extension before Christmas, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2019 season.

Wright (pictured) told his pre-season training was going well and was looking forward to an improved season and an even better partnership with his fellow forwards.

"Last year I was just finding my feet and getting used to the standards of AFL,” he said.

"We need to build on that synergy, build on those minutes together and understand each others' games more and push each other to get better and better with some friendly competition.

"A real focus for us is keeping that isolation.

"I need to focus on being more consistent week to week, (because) I was fading in and out a bit last year.”

Wright also said despite the departure of midfield guns Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia, the club had recruited well with the likes of Brisbane Lions' Pearce Hanley, Adelaide's Jarryd Lyons and Fremantle's Michael Barlow all making tthe Gold Coast their

"I think we've had a really good off-season as a club,” Wright told

"Pearce is already breaking lines and fitting in well.

"Micky Barlow's work rate ... to see him on the track first-hand, he's really setting standards amongst the group.

"I can't wait to play with those guys.”
