World's first underwater Instameet captures turtle selfie

IT'S NOT everyday you get to take a selfie with a turtle.

Which is why photographer Mark Fitzpatrick jumped at the chance to host an Underwater Instameet held on Lady Musgrave Island on Saturday.

Up to 35 keen photographers participated in the meet, capturing shots of the crystal clear waters surrounding the island.

Mark said the day could not have gone any better.

"We had 35 people register and attend yesterday which was a great turnout, a number of people came up from Noosa, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and even NSW," he said.

"First up we got to watch the fish feeding at the pontoon and then shortly after everyone got to head out into the lagoon and go snorkelling for a couple of hours."

At one stage the group were surrounded by turtles, giving them plenty of photo opportunities.

"The turtles were very relaxed and easy going, they let us swim up to them and get a few photos, it was amazing," he said.

The group were also treated to a glass bottom tour and island tour of Lady Musgrave Island.

"We can't wait to go back again," Mark said.

"The team at GAPDL did a great job of organising the event in conjunction with Lady Musgrave Cruises

"We're very lucky to have such stunning places right here in the Gladstone region."
