Three out of four stressed workers have sleepless nights

AS people go back to work today after a long weekend, workers have been urged to de-stress to avoid joining the 38% of Queenslanders who feel seriously pressured most weeks they are at work.

A new study conducted for Mental Health Week 2013 showed 86% of Queenslanders experienced severe stress at work.

The research, conducted by Medibank, showed about three out of every four workers had sleepless nights over work-related stress.

It also showed Queenslanders were the most likely to take day off work due to serious stress.

Mental Health Council of Australia chief executive officer Frank Quinlan said stress could be from long hours, large workloads, job insecurity and work conflict.

"The symptoms can severely impact on quality of life," he said.

He urged workplaces to open up about problems that could cause work stress - for both employees and employers.
