ERNIE Dingo was lapping up the sunshine and chin wags with Boyne Tannum HookUp patrons, highly impressed with the quality of one of the southern hemisphere's biggest fishing events.

Observer: What brings you to our neck of the woods?

ED: I am doing a lot of work with Engel and we travel around doing displays.

The boys kept talking about HookUp so I had to come up.

I've come from Melbourne where it's really snowy. I am working on my tan here in the sun.

I'm just stirring people up and chatting to them.

Observer: What's something non-fishermen don't know about fishing?

ED: Fishing is one of those things where you can't talk. You have to be quiet.

You scare the fish if you bullsh*t.

Fishing's not the time to have a deep and meaningful, either. Nobody plays loud music while you are fishing. You've got to focus.

Observer: Did you grow up fishing?

ED: I fished with a shotgun two inches below the water.

Observer: How many rods do fishermen need?

ED: Women should never complain about how many fishing rods men have.

Men have a different rod for different fishing conditions.

You ask any man, he would have five, six or seven rods. I bet you've got about 10 or 15 pairs of shoes.
It's the same for men.

Observer: What do you think about the HookUp so far?

ED: It's like people here are just walking into a family backyard.

This show is in a world of its own. Everyone's got a smile on their face.
