Woman bashed, man tasered in social distancing row

A man has been arrested for hitting a woman on the head with a bottle at a Woolworths in Sydney's southwest yesterday.

About 11.35am Friday, a 59-year-old woman was waiting at a supermarket checkout counter on Cartwright Ave, Miller, when a man stood closely behind her, police say. She asked him to take a step back, in accordance with social distancing measures.

While the woman was purchasing her groceries, the man approached her from behind and hit her head with a bottle he was holding.

He has since been caught in a dramatic arrest where police say he pulled out a meat cleaver and had to be tasered.

Police are trying to find this man after he assaulted a woman yesterday.

Luckily the bottle did not break when the man smashed it over the woman's head.

The man fled the store.

The woman was treated by paramedics and taken to Liverpool Hospital as a precaution.

Police were called and officers from Liverpool Police Area Command searched the area without success.

However, around midday today, police were patrolling Green Valley when they saw a man in a park on Lorikeet Crescent matching the description.

Police approached the man, who produced a meat cleaver. He was tasered before being arrested and taken to Liverpool Hospital as a precaution.
