SKIING: Olympic aerial gold medallist Lydia Lassila is ready for another crack at a medal after setting her sights on competing at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The 34-year-old won gold in Vancouver in 2010 before taking bronze four years later in Sochi.

The Australian said she had thought about quitting but realised she still wanted to keep challenging herself.

"I was hoping that retirement feeling would come,” she said. "But it kind of never did.

"I even thought 'oh my God, when is this feeling going to come?' But it was also exciting that I had the drive to keep going.”

Lassilla, who was the first skier to land a quad-twisting jump, will be 36 by the time the Olympics comes round.

She is also a mother of two but is happy to be joining her teammates at a training camp in Finland as attempts to qualify for her fifth Games.

"I can be competitive for another round, opt for more consistency and be more strategic,” she said.

"I know I'm on the tail end of my athletic career and with a second son, life is full and busy.”

"I'm realistic and have different expectations this time. I'd regret it if I didn't try again.”
