Wins will come if Panthers have more consistency: Kingston

DESPITE losing the past four games and sitting 15th on the ladder, Panthers captain Kevin Kingston believes his club has the roster to turn its season around.

The Panthers will go into their clash against Newcastle tomorrow night as rank outsiders, quoted at $5.25 with Sportingbet.

But Kingston has seen enough positives to think some wins are not far away.

"Definitely (the wins can come). We just need to be more consistent across the whole 80 minutes," he said.

Kingston said the team had worked hard on its defence this week after letting in 30 points against the Cowboys last Saturday night.

He said he was confident the young halves pairing of Blake Austin and Tom Humble could lead the team around the park, with Austin playing last round in favour of the dumped Luke Walsh.

"Tom has got some great skills and Blake brings us that x-factor," Kingston said.

The skipper said despite the club's lowly ladder position, he believed the club was headed in the right direction.

"Our premier league team and all our junior teams are going well at the moment. We just need to start going better in first grade," he said.

"Gus (general manager Phil Gould) and Ivan (coach Ivan Cleary) have worked really hard on changing the club's structure and culture."

Meanwhile, the Knights yesterday confirmed hooker Danny Buderus would be rested from the game due to back soreness.

"He was named in the team, but we have decided with the bye next weekend, to give him the two weeks off," performance director Jeremy Hickmans said.

Travis Waddell will come into the team as Buderus' replacement.
