Batsmen have tons of fun in LJ Hooker League cricket

FOUR top-order batsmen scored centuries for winning teams in Far North Coast LJ Hooker League cricket one-day games on Saturday.

It is the first time this season - and probably ever - there has beena century in each game of a round.

Ballina Bears opener Lee Barnett made 110 to set his side up for a thrilling one-wicket win over the Casino Cavaliers at Fripp Oval, Ballina.

It was a big effort from the 27-year-old, who has played only a handful of games in the top grade since returning from the Gold Coast last year.

Middle-order batsman Jonny Young contributed 29 runs before Luke Hall and Chris Jones put on an unbeaten lower-order stand of 33 to complete the run chase.

It came down to the final ball of the game with the home team able to snatch the win.

Nicholas Fuller was the pick of the Casino bowlers, taking 4-46 from his eight overs.

Earlier, middle-order batsman Myles McDowell scored 89 and Sam Irvine 59 not out.

In other games, Cudgen reminded everyone what they are capable of with a nine-wicket thrashing of Alstonville at Reg Dalton Oval,Kingscliff.

It took them just 24.4 overs to chase down the Alstonville total of 9-194 cc.

Top-order batsman Craig Wilson was unbeaten on 107 and opener Jamie Wilson made 64.

Alstonville captain Nathan Collins top-scored for his side for the second week in a row with a determined 87.

Elsewhere, all-rounder Andrew Lindsay remained 101 not out to lead Lennox Head to a 29-run win over Marist Brothers at Oakes Oval, Lismore.

Lennox set a target of 203 with middle-order batsman Angus Callan chipping in with 44.

Brothers' middle-order bat Ashley Simes provided some resistance with 45 along with 36 from opener Brad Cleaver.

Travis Clarke ripped through the top-order taking the wickets of Sam Martin, Luke Cleaver and Jeremy Cowin before Tom Watkins finished the job with four wickets.

And Pottsville opener Jayden Hoare scored 107 to lead his side to victory over Tintenbar-East Ballina at Seabreeze Oval, Pottsville.

Pottsville won by 23 runs after finishing on 7-252 after 40 overs.

Young captain Nathan Hoey did his best for an under-strength Tintenbar, top-scoring with 67.
