Williams joins Hewitt in Brisbane

WORLD No.1 and reigning champion Serena Williams and Australian favourite Lleyton Hewitt are the latest stars to confirm they will play at January's Brisbane International.

Williams, who last month won her 17th grand slam title at the US Open, won her first Brisbane crown earlier this year with a win over Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the final.

Williams (pictured) said she was delighted to be coming back next year.

"I remember I was really excited to win," she said of last year's success in Queensland.

"I was so focused on the final and felt like this was a good start for the Australian Open."

Hewitt also said he was happy to be heading back to Queensland.

"It was the first time I played the Brisbane International this year and I had a lot of fun up there," the former world No.1 said.

"It's going to be another tough tournament; they always have extremely strong fields.

"Roger Federer is going there for the first time as well, so that's going to be pretty exciting for the Brisbane International."
