Wightman in action at ISA Ecuador comp
LENNOX Head surfer Zac Wightman will compete in the third heat of the ISA World Junior Championships in Ecuador.
Wightman is one of fours boys representing Australia in the under-16 division.
The event at Salinas Beach has attracted more than 300 of the world's best under-16 and under-18 surfers from 32 countries.
Wightman won his opening heat with a combined score of 9.00 from his two best waves
He managed a 9.43 in his next heat but was narrowly beaten by Mexico's Jhonatan Corzo.
The Australian team of 12 started the competition in strong fashion.
They had seven wins and a second placing from the opening eight heats with all surfing advancing to the second round of the competition.
Wightman is a member of the Lennox-Ballina Boardriders and has had plenty of highlights in the water in recent times.
He won the final in his age division at the National Schools All Star final at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles in Kiama late last year.
Wightman also won the under-16 boys final at the NSW School Surfing Titles in Maroubra in the lead-up to the Australian titles.
Coolangatta surfer Quinn Bruce has also been a standout in the under-16 division in Ecuador.
