Who will win The Block? Still too close to call says judge

JUDGING The Block Glasshouse apartments is like comparing apples to oranges - or to sour grapes, in the case of Dee and Darren.

The reality renovation show's five teams spent nearly three months turning a rundown Prahran office building into luxury apartments, which all have different shapes, sizes and outlooks.

"This is ridiculously hard," judge Shaynna Blaze told APN.

"There are quite a lot of things coming into play before you even consider which is your favourite. It's really quite tricky in [terms of] what's going to appeal to people in their price ranges."

For broad appeal, Blaze can't go past newlyweds Max and Karstan's apartment.

The couple will be seen tying the knot, with Block host Scott Cam officiating, in tonight's grand final episode before the auctions get underway.

"I definitely see a lot of appeal for the sheer size and northerly aspect, and that secret room we didn't even know about until it went to air," Blaze said.

"There are also things that are going to work against them. They have to have the highest reserve," she added.

If she had a few million to burn, then Blaze's personal choice would be the apartment designed by Gold Coast parents Michael and Carlene, who have been the judges' favourites due to their eye for detail and clean finishes.

"It felt like a really complete home from day one," she said.

"It looks like someone's already lived there."

Simon and Shannon might be the dark horses though, with their appeal to Melbourne's "hipster" market.

"I think their apartment will appeal to a lot of people in the area. It's a real hipster area and there are a lot of cool, funky people," Blaze said. "I can see someone running a business from there."

Blaze is currently filming the eighth season of her Foxtel show Selling Houses Australia, and will return to judge the new season of The Block, currently filming in South Yarra.

"Doing both these shows at the same time has been incredible and not easy as well," she said.

"Selling Houses is fast and furious. Coming up with 13 designs in six months, it's full-on but I thrive on it."

The Block Glasshouse final airs tonight at 6.30pm on Channel 9/WIN.
