Brett throws supports behind Papalii for Origin II selection
RAIDERS and former NSW Origin prop Brett White has added his voice to the chorus of support for Canberra forward Josh Papalii to be named in the Queensland side for Origin II next Wednesday night.
A Maroons selector was at Canberra Stadium on Saturday night to watch Papalii, who was 19th man for Queensland in Origin I, make 24 tackles and 15 hit-ups for 144m, the most ground made by any forward in the game.
White said as a New South Welshman, he would prefer if his teammate did not play for the Maroons, but admitted Papalii would add some punch in attack.
"He would certainly add something. As a NSW supporter, and a Blues boy, I probably hope he doesn't play," White said.
The player under most scrutiny in the Queensland side is lock Ashley Harrison who made 28 tackles in game I, but just 48m in a lacklustre forward pack.
White also said that as a parent, he understood why the NRL had decided to crack down on any player who threw punches in Origin II, with referees boss Daniel Anderson set to inform rival coaches Mal Meninga and Laurie Daley of the new hardline approach.
