THE introduction of the Car of the Future technology was supposed to level the playing field in the V8 Supercars championship.
Somebody clearly forgot to tell Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes.
The pair showed their rivals a clean pair of wheels in the historic first two races held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas on Saturday.
Whincup made it look like a training session in the first race.
Lowndes was not far off, challenging at some stages, but not close enough to strike.
Race two produced an identical result - Fabian Coulthard was also third in both races - Whincup later apologising to fans.
"I'm sorry that the podium was the same for both races, we would have liked to have spiced it up, but that's the way it goes," he said.
Whincup also said he believed the other drivers would challenge he and Lowndes throughout the season.
"They are stock cars. They are pretty much all the same, we pretty much run the same componentry and the same tyres," he said.
"We are just able to fine tune the balance ... all the other guys will no doubt make a step up."
