When urine trouble, here's a wee trick...

A MAN stranded for two and a half days in the desert last week says a survival technique he learnt on the Discovery Channel helped save his life.

Darwin resident, Tom Mason, 21, ran out of water while stranded on a dirt track about 140km south of Uluru last Wednesday.

He drank his own urine to stay hydrated after seeing someone - most likely Bear Grylls - do it on television when he was a child.

"It was just enough to moisten my mouth," Mr Mason, who now lives in Darwin, says.

"I had to do it a couple of times. It was not very nice."
