When it's time to turn the tables
CHOOSING the right dining table can be overwhelming, as table shapes, sizes and styles are almost infinite.
Firstly, there are two considerations that must be addressed and they are size and shape.
A simple guide is that round and oval tables tend to suit smaller spaces, while square and rectangle tables suit larger rooms.
Once you nail these two factors, you need to ask yourself what style of table you would like.
The following is an outline of some of the more popular styles.
Finally, I suggest you choose your style based on the long-term rather than a passing fad, as a quality dining table should last you years, if not decades.
You can buy your dining chairs to match, though this is not compulsory.
TRADITIONAL: More formal dining table options can be replica antiques or the real deal.
CONTEMPORARY: Sleek, simple lines can be made of any number or combination of materials including timber, metal and glass.
MID-CENTURY: All things mid-century are popular and my belief is the style works well in contemporary homes.
INDUSTRIAL: This style works in almost any setting, even when juxtaposed against a contrasting interior.
COUNTRY STYLE/RUSTIC: Also a popular style of table due to the warmth and character of country-style furniture.
