What every parent must do by December 13

Australia Post's annual Santa Mail is back, giving kids the chance to send their wishlists to the North Pole for official consideration.

Last year more than 130,000 cards were sent to the jolly man in red and children can track the letter's progress via an interactive Santa Mail tracker.

Australia Post's Michelle Skehan said the organisation was delighted to help spread the Christmas cheer and encouraged families to get involved.

"Christmas is a magical time of year and Santa Mail is a treasured tradition in so many households. It is also a wonderful opportunity for children to practice their letter writing skills and how to address, stamp and post a letter."

To participate ensure that your letter is sent before December 13.

To participate, send your letters to Santa, North Pole, 9999 with a 65c Christmas stamp on the front of the envelope and their name and return address on the back so Santa knows where to send a reply.

Parents and children who have low vision can opt-in to receive a large text reply from Santa by sending their letters to: Santa Mail (large text) North Pole, 9999.

Santa Mail letters can be placed in any dedicated Santa Mail box or red street post box.

Santa Mail boxes can be found at most Post Offices and families are encouraged to lodge their letters before Friday 13 December so Santa can reply before loading up his sleigh.

There are even letter templates and further instructions available on the Australia Post website.

Don't forget as well that on Christmas Eve kids can track Santa's movements on the official NORAD website that has operated for 60 years.
