Drivers beware... our koalas are in the mood for love

DRIVERS are being urged to take extra caution as koala activity increases with the start of mating season.

The breeding season usually runs from September to March.

This is also the time of year mothers are carrying young from the previous year.

Koala Connections projects officer Joanne Green said koalas were known to use the same trees for feeding and also train their young to use these same trees each year.

"Just a single tree can be a major part of a koala's home range," she said.

"Koalas tend to be faithful to their home ranges and will attempt to return if moved out of them."
