A SUNSHINE Coast motorist has captured the frightening moment when a car drove on the wrong side of a major road in the pouring rain.
Dashcam footage shows a car travelling down the wrong way on Maroochydore Rd at the busy intersection with the Sunshine Motorway.
Amanda Jones captured the confusing moment- that occurred during a wet day on Coast roads on Thursday-on her dashcam.
She was sitting in a line of traffic from Kuluin, waiting to turn right on to the Sunshine Motorway where a sign indicates "Mooloolaba turn off".
"I just couldn't believe that someone would do that," Ms Jones said.
"He turned around in front of the other cars coming from the other way."
Through the windscreen wipers swishing rain, the footage shows red brake lights as the white car casually drive down the wrong side of the road.
Emergency services have urged motorists to drive to the conditions over the next few days.
Vehicles found driving beyond road closure signs can receive on-the-spot fines of $660 under provisions of the Transport Infrastructure Act.
"During and immediately after severe weather events traversing roadways, either in vehicles or on foot, can become extremely hazardous as water levels can rise and fall quickly," a police statement said.
Motorists are asked to carefully plan their trips, to regularly monitor traffic conditions and allow additional travel time, incorporating travelling at lower speeds, delays and diversions.
