PUP Senator declares loyalty to Palmer

LONE Palmer United Party Senator Dio Wang has said he will stand by Clive Palmer, in the wake of the collapse of Mr Palmer's nickel refinery and questions swirling around the firm's political donations.

Sen Wang has promised to stand by Mr Palmer, Sen Wang's spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday. It follows Mr Palmer's Queensland Nickel Townsville refinery going under voluntary administration on Monday after Mr Palmer sacked nearly 250 staff last week.

The collapse of the refinery's finances is being assessed by FTI Consulting, but it follows more than $21 million of donations the firm made to Mr Palmer's political party in the past two years.

Mr Palmer had asked both the Queensland and Federal governments to loan the company to keep in afloat in recent months, but both bids were rejected.
