Viewers vote Anja Nissen through to The Voice grand final

A POWERHOUSE performance of a Whitney Houston ballad helped Anja Nissen earn a spot in The Voice grand final.

Eighteen-year-old Nissen originally lost out on a grand final spot to team mates ZK, the first duo to ever make it to a Voice Australia grand final.

In a first for the show, viewers had one minute to vote in a snap poll to send a fifth singer to next week's grand final, choosing between Nissen, Sabrina Batshon, Holly Tapp and Kat Jade.

Nissen joins the Top 4 singers, as voted by the viewing public, Frank Lakoudis, Johnny Rollins, ZK and Jackson Thomas.

Her coach will.i.am tweeted to his more than 12 million followers that Nissen was "too amazing to go home".

The night's other big performance came from rock singer Frank Lakoudis, who received universal praise from the coaches.

Will.i.am said the 23-year-old reminded him of Jane's Addiction front man and Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell, who was "still a nice guy no matter how big his group was".

"You could fill in for any big singer in any big band," Joel Madden said.

"You have that powerful of a voice and that's hard to find in rock music."

Earlier in the show the Top 8 singers performed with their pint-sized counterparts from The Voice Kids.

Viewers can vote for which songs the five finalists will revisit in next week's grand final show, during which the finalists will also sing duets with their coaches.

It will be a busy night for will.i.am, who now has two grand finalists and will be the final coach to perform live on the show after Ricky Martin's performance tonight.

The Voice grand final airs next Monday at 7.30pm on Channel 9/WIN.
