Video ref rules in tight match between Titans and Dragons

THE Titans pegged back a 14-8 deficit and overcame a controversial video refereeing decision to snare a 15-14 win over the Dragons at Skilled Park yesterday.

The teams had gone into halftime at 8-all before Dragons winger Jason Nightingale put his side up 14-8 after 51 minutes, outleaping William Zillman off a Soward bomb.

The hosts looked to level the scores at 14-all after 58 minutes when Aidan Sezer popped an inside ball to Zillman, the fullback strolling through a large gap to score.

But the try was disallowed due to an obstruction.

The Titans tried the same play just five minutes later, however, with Zillman again slicing through the visitor's defence.

Yet again, it went to the video referee to make sure the No.1 reached the line.

That time it was given the green light, the Titans taking the lead after a Sezer field goal with 14 minutes still on the clock.

Dragons five-eighth Jamie Soward surprisingly did not opt to level the score through the drop-goal option with six minutes remaining when his team was camped in front of the posts.

Instead, he was forced into two audacious shots from long-range, his second one falling short right on fulltime.
