US President running out of time to shut Guantanamo Bay
PRESIDENT Barack Obama is running low on time to fulfil his pledge of closing the Guantanamo Bay prison, but he is lowering the number of detainees.
The United Arab Emirates has agreed to take custody of 12 Yemeni and three Afghan citizens, reducing the number of Guantanamo inmates to 61.
The US military-run facility has been used to house almost 800 terror suspects since the September 11, 2001 attacks on the US - most of them without charge or trial.
About 240 inmates remained in the prison when Mr Obama took office eight years ago pledging to close the facility.
