Unscheduled dip for driver

OVER the years the Clarence River has claimed its share of victims when drivers lose concentration and finish up in the drink.

Daily Examiner photographer Debrah Novak snapped this photo on Saturday when this car finished up in Shallow Channel on Micalo Island, near Yamba.

They said it was lucky for the occupants of the White Rav 4, which left the road nose first, that it was low tide.

The occupants were able to climb through the back window and were taken to hospital.

Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance and NSW Police were on the scene.

In a busy week for police there were reports of another accident about 7.15am near Tabbimobile at the road works.

Later in the day there was a single-vehicle crash at Sherry's Lane, Tyndale

A little more than an hour later police detained a man at Ulmarra on George St, but no further details were available.
