Unravelling a drug ring, as 10 charged

FIVE people have faced court over a drug ring in which police allege huge amounts of marijuana were smuggled from Victoria to Bundaberg and distributed throughout the community.

Police allegedly seized more than $150,000 worth of drugs, cash and cars as a result of a six-month operation targeting drug trafficking.

Ten people have been charged with 39 offences, including trafficking and supplying dangerous drugs, following the conclusion of Operation Kilo Privilege which uncovered $60,000 of marijuana and $40,000 in cash.

The protracted investigation began in December and concluded with 10 raids performed across the region early this week.

Five of the 10 people charged as a result of the bust faced Bundaberg Magistrates Court yesterday morning to apply for bail but only two were released, with three others considered unacceptable risks of either committing further offences, tampering with witnesses or fleeing the state.
