Video of UFOs sighted over Byron

IT'S definitely not a bird, it doesn't look much like a plane, so the question is: "what is it?"

This object was one of about 30 "perfectly round orange pulsating globes" spotted flying through the sky over Byron Bay by a Sunrise resident just after midnight on Saturday morning.

The resident said the objects traversed the sky, heading from roughly in the direction of the Ewingsdale Road sports complex towards the lighthouse over the course of about 15 to 20 minutes.

The objects tended to come in packs of three or four at a time and moved relatively slowly and in total silence.

The resident said his impression the objects were not particularly high in the sky, although he conceded it was hard to say precisely.

"It was surreal," he said.

While it's difficult to say precisely what the globes are, a call-out on the Northern Star's Facebook page yesterday got plenty of theories, ranging from the moon to a glow-in-the-dark frisbee to a "tropospheric reflection during a temperature inversion and solar storm that occurred at the time".
