Tyler impresses in Hawaii’s surf
LENNOX Head’s Tyler Wright was runner-up at the Vans Duel for the Jewel at Pipeline to four-time ASP Women’s world champion Stephanie Gilmore.
She was also runner-up to Gilmore in the Women’s Vans Triple Crown Championship and won the Women’s Vans Triple Crown Rookie award.
Wright has sent shockwaves throughout the surfing world after her super impressive achievements in Hawaii in the big surf this season.
Tyler will be on the Women’s Dream Tour and she will start her year in 2011 having already claimed two World Tour wins as a wildcard.
Owen Wright from Lennox Head was eliminated in his quarter-final heat of the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons by eventual event winner Jeremy Flores.
Wright placed equal fifth and took home US$13,250 and has also secured the 2010 ASP World Tour Rookie of the Year.
Wright and Adam Melling will both represent the Ballina Shire on the Men’s Dream Tour in 2011.
WE are all looking forward to some swell over the Christmas break, as this flat spell on the east coast over the past two months is right up there as some of the worst months in history.
The La Nina weather pattern is the cause of our woes. Swell forecasters are predicting some good waves this week and small fun waves for Christmas Day, so that will be good.
