Two police officers injured arresting sword-wielding man
TWO POLICE officers were injured during the arrest of a sword-wielding man on Friday afternoon.
Just after 2.30pm, four officers attended a residence in Main Street, Eungai Creek, to arrest a man by virtue of a warrant issued by Macksville Local Court.
As police approached the front door, a man exited the premises allegedly armed with a Samurai sword.
It's alleged the man attempted to remove the sword from its sheath and attack police.
A struggle ensued, during which the man and two officers sustained injuries.
Police disarmed and arrested the man.
He was taken the Macksville Hospital, where he was treated for a number of cuts.
A male constable also received treatment for a cut to his left hand, while a male detective senior constable sustained soreness to his right hand and left arm.
The 51-year-old man was later released from hospital.
He was charged by virtue of the warrant, along with using a weapon to avoid apprehension and resisting arrest and was refused bail to appear in Kempsey Local Court on Monday.
