Two Bali Nine members could face firing squad together

TWO Bali Nine members will face the firing squad together if Andrew Chan loses his final bid for clemency.

Australians, Myuran Sukumaran, 33, and Chan, 31, have been on death row in Kerobokan prison since they were convicted in 2006 for their role in a plot in 2005 to smuggle 8.2kg of heroin from Bali to Sydney.

Sukumaran has exhausted all his appeals to avoid a death sentence, but Chan is awaiting the outcome of his final bid for clemency.

However, it was reported earlier this week Indonesian officials had already placed Chan on the execution list.

The pair had pinned their hopes on their remorse and rehabilitation behind bars winning them a pardon from Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Indonesian officials said yesterday that once a decision to execute is made the process would progress quickly.

Under Indonesian laws, people who commit crimes jointly and are sentenced to death are executed together.

Indonesian Attorney-General H.M. Prasetyo told News Ltd six death row inmates on drug offences will face the firing squad on Sunday.

He said one is Indonesian and the others are from Brazil, Nigeria, Malawi, Vietnam and Holland.

Mr Prasetyo said they were prioritising the execution of drug offenders. Mr Widodo had previously said there would be no clemency or compromise and the next round of executions would be drug traffickers.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said last week he hoped their executions would not go ahead but he would not jeopardise the relationship with Indonesia.
