New mining contract in Surat Basin doubles earthmoving jobs

A SURAT Basin earthworks company has scored a coal seam gas contract worth $25 million, enough for it to double its workforce.

T&W Earthworks is now expected to hire 50 to work on developing gas wells and roads for gas giant QGC's multi-billion dollar Queensland Curtis LNG project.

The project will funnel coal seam gas extracted from Surat Basin wells through a 540km pipeline to its liquefied natural gas plant on Curtis Island off Gladstone.

In a statement, QGC estimated it had now spent $300 million on earthmoving in the Surat Basin.
