Turnbull shuns NBN sell off idea

COMMUNICATIONS Minister Malcolm Turnbull has rejected a call to sell off parts of the National Broadband Network to help fund the building of the network.

An independent review of the NBN and its rollout has urged the Abbott government to consider breaking up some parts from others to sell to the private sector.

The review, tabled in parliament this week, found selling off some parts of the network could save money and allow NBN Co to focus on building the rest.

Mr Turnbull on Thursday told the ABC he would not consider any such plans, reiterating that the NBN Co should be focussed on getting "the thing built" before entertaining other options.

But he said once the NBN was completed, it could be an option explored by a "future government", as to whether the completed infrastructure should be sold off to private interests.
