
Tropical Cyclone Nathan set for third landfall
TROPICAL Cyclone Nathan is poised to make its third landfall, having already crossed the Queensland and Northern Territory coasts in the past week.
The category one storm was moving slowly and overnight was packing winds of up to 130 kilometres per hour.
On its current track, it was due to cross the coast between Goulburn Island and Maningrida later this morning.
Residents of Goulburn Island were evacuated ahead of the cyclone's expected arrival.
The cyclone warning area extends from Maningrida to Point Stuart and Cape Don with a storm tide expected between Maningrida and Milingimbi.
The storm is not likely intensify again and is expected to ease rapidly once over land.
