Homeowners nightmare: Residents move out, squatter moves in

A 55-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with trespass and malicious damage after police were called to a vacant house in Moon St, Ballina.

Police allege the man entered the vacant house some days ago and had been living there while the house was empty and awaiting renovations.

The owners went to the house on Monday and noticed the back door open and the lights on inside.

They found the 55-year-old man inside and called police.

He was subsequently issued with a field court attendance notice for trespass and malicious damage.
