Travel counsellor takes holiday planning to new level
ORGANISING your holiday around Australia or internationally is now even easier with the concept of a travel counsellor.
Ipswich has its own travel counsellor - Jamie Cooper.
His home-based Travel Counsellors franchise is different from the rest because Jamie comes to you.
There are even more significant differences in the way Travel Counsellors operates. The name says it all.
It is a move away from the travel agent, with the idea that the person or company is an agent for particular products, specific brand names.
"We are about the client and our focus is on getting the client on the trip they want," owner and manager Jamie Cooper said.
Travel Counsellors is an international business that started in the United Kingdom in 1994 and is now a global franchise group.
"It gives international strength to the group and a very significant support network for each owner/operator," he said.
The award-winning systems, global buying power and focus on customer service set Travel Counsellors and Jamie Cooper apart.
"It is about convenience for travel planning. I listen and hear what the client wants. Not every holiday or product suits every client and that is where my experience and the support of Travel Counsellors comes in. It can be about tailor-making a holiday," he said.
Travel Counsellors looks after all types of travel, from domestic and business to all types of holidays.
Mr Cooper has a strong background in travel and hospitality.
"I started out working in hotels and went on to selling holiday packages. I worked on tours through north Queensland. I moved into retail travel in the UK where I worked for the big boys. I just thought it could be done better and it has been a natural progression to come to this point in my career," he said.
Because the business is built on going to the client it is also about flexible time.
"Being mobile means I do not have set trading days or hours. I saw clients on Easter Saturday because that was when they were available."
Mr Cooper started two years ago to serve the Ipswich market, although he attracts clients from further afield.
He believes that part of the group's success was that the average travel counsellor had more than 19 years' experience in the industry, something he said gave strength and credibility.
Mr Cooper said that international travel was very strong.
The United States of America in general and specifically Hawaii is proving very popular with the travelling public.
Mr Cooper said that the domestic market was "fighting back" with an emphasis on Tasmania and South Australia.
He believed that the benefit of using Travel Counsellors was about customer service.
"You have 24-hour seven-day-a-week support because I am always there, not through some call centre, have a problem then call me directly and I can get it sorted out," he said.
Travel Counsellors offers 100% protection for the client from financial failure to a third party.
"For example if an airline or an outlet went out of business we cover the client. We are the only travel service that does this," he said.
