Training is key to success

THEY are the newest business owners in Grafton - and they have an important message they would like to share with you.

"We are here, we are local and we deliver quality, accredited training."

Husband and wife team Darren and Melissa Hayes are the new owners of registered training organisation, Country Hospitality Services (CHS Training) following the previous owner Esther Mason.

Former residents of South Grafton, the Hayes have 20 years experience working in the hospitality and property management industry throughout Queensland and New Zealand.

Recently, the down to earth couple made the decision to return home to seek new ventures and allow their children to enjoy "the lovely Grafton lifestyle."

"After spending many years on the Gold Coast and in New Zealand working in resort hotels, accommodation, apartments and living on-site managing buildings Melissa and I decided we wanted to bring our family home to Grafton," Darren said.

"Mel worked at CHS Training with Esther. That is how we first became associated with the business."

"I had been working as a hospitality and real estate trainer for two years when Esther asked if we (Darren and I) were interested in buying the business and we couldn't say no," Melissa added.

"We are both thrilled to be involved with CHS Training. Our staff do an amazing job in running it and it has a fantastic reputation in the community which we want to build on. We are pleased Esther will remain with the business as hospitality trainer."

"We want people to know we are here. We are a locally owned and operated business and we have a strong interest in the local community.

"Darren and I love being back in Grafton and our main focus is to promote the strength of the business and continue the wonderful legacy Esther has established."

Since 2004, CHS Training has played a mainstream role in educating and guiding hopeful employees along their individual career pathways.

Under the new leadership of Darren and Melissa, the business is continuing to grow from strength to strength through the provision of quality training in professional working environments.

"CHS Training is all about the outcome of our courses," Melissa said.

"It's about giving people the skills they are looking for to build their careers and giving employers the opportunity of employing qualified employees."

A leading provider of hospitality, aged care, beauty and real estate training, CHS Training offers short term, long term and full certificate courses on location at 3/81 Victoria St, Grafton with all courses catering to industry requirements.

RSA and RCG courses are offered locally and a team of 10 CHS Training industry professional trainers cover regional NSW from the Queensland border, south to Kempsey and west to Armidale and Moree.

"We go wherever training is needed," Melissa said.

"We especially love the chance to work with younger people who are looking to kick-start their chosen career training. We have been involved in delivering RSA and RCG courses in high schools for quite a few years and it has been a wonderful and rewarding experience.

"CHS Training run regular courses every month and there are some fantastic courses available including a barista course, short beauty courses, real estate CPD and food safety supervisor training.

"We also provide aged care training which covers first aid. Our Certificate III in Aged Care markets very well for us and it has proven to be a very popular choice of training.

"At CHS Training we are focused on continually updating our policies and procedures to ensure the highest level of training is provided to all clients. As a business we are big on continuous improvement.

"By upholding the knowledge and skills of our trainers, the students who enrol in our courses are guaranteed to be given the greatest opportunity to learn the skills they want to master before entering the workforce.

"We understand the importance of hiring exceptional employees. We understand the need for businesses to employ the right people and these are the professional ethics our trainers and courses highlight."

CHS Training also teaches students the importance of workplace hygiene, personal presentation and how to master interviews and self-marketing.

To establish a successful career, Darren and Melissa believe a determination to work hard, the ability to think on your feet, a desire to achieve and plenty of initiative go a long way towards helping an employee reach their goals.

"The hospitality industry can be hard work, but it can also be lots of fun," Melissa said.

"To be successful you also need to demonstrate good customer service skills and know how to appropriately handle different work situations. That is why we endorse work experience at CHS Training and encourage our students to take the opportunity to learn from established industry professionals."

Dareen and Melissa also wish to extend their warmest thanks to a number of local businesses including the Clarence River Jockey Club (CRJC) and Grafton District Services Club (GDSC) for their generous and continual support and encouragement of CHS Training graduates and work experience students.

"There are many brilliant local business owners who have offered potential employees the opportunity to experience the workforce while undergoing their training and we cannot thank them enough," Darren said.

"Their support has been fantastic and it means so much to us to have them on board."

"Work experience gives graduates a huge boost in confidence," Melissa added.

"They are able to fully experience what different jobs entail and it is such a huge learning curve for them. CHS Training has received emails from past graduates who are now employed full time and I think it is lovely to hear how well they are doing and how much they have taken on board during their training - and from participating in work experience.

"Darren and I love the work we do and at the end of the day it is always a satisfying result to know what our graduates have achieved.

"We look forward to our busy future at the business and we look forward to meeting the next group of students to come through CHS Training."
