Ulmarra mum dies on anniversary bike ride

A LATE-in-life love affair with motorcycles ended in tragedy on Monday when Stacey Heydon of Ulmarra died in a crash near Glenreagh, in the Clarence Valley.

Mrs Heydon and her husband Colin were celebrating their 24th wedding anniversary with a ride to the Golden Dog Hotel in Glenreagh.

Her daughter, Amanda Collins, said her parents were just outside Glenreagh when two dogs ran in front of her father's bike.

"He slowed and stopped, but for a reason unknown, Mum didn't stop and ran into the back of Dad's bike, sending him airborne, and herself flying through the air," she said.

"She died from severe head injuries.

"Unfortunately the ambulance didn't attend the scene until 45 minutes later."

Mrs Collins said her mother would be sorely missed.

"Life without her will never be the same for the Heydon family and friends, but we can rest in the fact that she died doing what she loved - with the one she loved most - and she wouldn't have wanted it any other way," she said.

Mrs Collins also remember the strong marriage her parents enjoyed.

"Mum loved Dad and was a very devoted wife," Mrs Collins said.

"She was proud of her child- ren and besotted by her granddaughters.

"She was looking forward to future bike rides and time with her family."

Mrs Heydon's Facebook status on the day she died celebrated her marriage, her family and her love of motorcycles.

"24 years married today, 31 years together, 6 children, three beautiful grand-daughters ... motorbike rides, family dinners ... life is sweet :)"

For about two years Mrs Heydon was the carer for her husband's brother Russell, who was recovering from a stroke.

She is survived by her husband Colin, her six children Amanda, Tricia, Narelle, Alana, Simon and Leon and her four granddaughters Amanda, Leah, Sarah and Anna.

She was 50 years old.
