Top speakers for pipi meeting

THE Southern Beaches Users Club has secured some prominent speakers for tonight’s (August 11) meeting on pipis to be held in the function room of the Slipway Hotel, Ballina.

They include marine scientist Matt Landos, of Lennox Head, Doug Ferrall, the NSW Fisheries Resources manager from Sydney, Michael O’Connor, of Empire Vale, who heads the Ballina High School Marine Studies program, Charlie Howe, of Tweed Heads, who is a member of the NSW Recreational Fishing Advisory Panel, and Bruce Heynatz, of Bagotville, who, as a professional fisherman, monitored the pipi movements over a lengthy period on North Coast beaches.

The meeting aims to come up with ideas to restore the declining pipi population on all NSW beaches.

The meeting starts at 7pm.

For more information, phone Denis Magnay on 0412 493 367, Bob Pilling on 6686 8620 or Jim Gould on 6683 4229.
