Titans star suffers pre-season injury blow

GOLD Coast star Konrad Hurrell has suffered a setback in his preparations for 2017 after sustaining an injury during pre-season training.

The hard-running centre hurt his knee last week performing a routine training drill and is expected to be sidelined for up to a month.

Scans have revealed a minor tear in the ligament.

Coach Neil Henry said it was likely Hurrell would only miss three or four weeks, but couldn't guarantee his fitness for the Auckland Nines, to be played on February 4-5.

"He's just in a brace for probably two weeks, which is a bit of a setback for him, he's been training really well,” Henry said.

"It'll settle down, we're just about into the Christmas break and hopefully by mid-January he's back out there.”

If not, new recruit Dan Sarginson could slot straight into Hurrell's position.

The Englishman, who was in Wayne Bennett's squad for the recent Four Nations tournament, arrived on the Gold Coast last week and had settled in well, Henry said.

Hurrell, 25, joined the Titans from the Warriors midway through the 2016 season and starred in his 10 appearances for the club.
