Tiny pooch a big winner at Show

SHE may be just six months old, but prize-winning miniature poodle Abergale is already turning heads, picking up the coveted title of Puppy of Breed at the Sydney Royal Dog Show last week.

Registered officially as Darelle Sig Full Force Gale, Abergale also won the National Poodle Speciality Best Puppy of Breed a few days later.

Owner and breeder Darelle Krueger from Seelands said she had a good feeling about Abergale's chances at winning and hopes one day she will have what it takes to become Supreme Champion.

"Since she's been on all fours, she's been a little showy one," said Mrs Krueger, who has been breeding dogs for six years and exhibiting them for eight.

"She's got a lovely black coat, a lot for her age, and beautiful movement with lovely rear angulation and a lovely facing front. Her tail is always up."

Mrs Krueger said she was attracted to the breed for their intelligence and the fact miniature poodles don't have an odour or lose their coat as other dogs do.

"This is a great dog for people with allergies - their coat is wool not hair," she said.

Abergale and her sister Gracie, who was awarded second place, will also be competing at this month's Maclean and Grafton Dog Shows.

Last year one of Mrs Krueger's dogs, four-year-old Darelle Sig In the Midnight, or Codie as he is known by his call name, won Grand Champion and the first Supreme Champion in Australia for the miniature poodle breed.
