Thwaites' radar almost perfect for Magpies

CAITLIN Thwaites lived up to her billing as the competition's top shooter by leading Collingwood to a berth in the Super Netball semi-finals.

The Magpies beat West Coast Fever 49-42 at Perth Arena with Thwaites scoring 45 goals from 48 shots.

She gave Fever goalkeeper Courtney Bruce headaches all match after scoring Collingwood's first 32 goals. Thwaites was successful with her first 24 attempts.

The win took the Magpies three points clear of the fifth-placed Queensland Firebirds and ensured they finish fourth, regardless of what happens next week during the 14th and final round.

The Magpies led by nine goals midway through the second stanza, however, egged on by a near-capacity crowd, the Fever levelled the scores in the third term to set up a thrilling finish.

The Magpies led by just two goals with four minutes remaining before ex-Fever player Shae Brown scored to seal the visitors' win.

Fever goal attack Kate Beveridge (24 from 31) was solid but couldn't match Thwaites' accuracy because of tough marking by Magpie defender Sharni Layton.
