Bowen vegetation fire extinguished

UPDATE 12.30PM: Firefighters have managed to extinguish a vegetation fire that started at Bowen earlier today.

A spokeswoman from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said the fire was about 700m x 400m and was situated on Kelsey Rd at Bowen.

Six crews responded to the blaze, three rural crews and three urban crews, and all appliances remain at the scene.

Firefighters are currently dampening down the edges of the fire and a tanker has left to refill with water.

The first crew arrived at the scene about 11am.

INITIAL 11AM: Three fire crews are on scene at a vegetation fire on Kelsey Rd, Bowen.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews had reported that a small hedge was on fire.

They are in the process of extinguishing the flames.

Queensland Rural Fire Services has warned that smoke may affect residents in the area.
