Three armed offenders wanted after golf club robbery

THREE men are wanted over a violent armed robbery at the Sawtell Golf Club where a staff member was threatened with a firearm and struck to the head with a machete.

The man was set upon by three men, wielding a firearm, a machete and a baseball bat in the club car park as he walked to his vehicle just after closing on Tuesday night.

Police said he was confronted around 9.30pm and ordered back inside the club.

Coffs Clarence Duty Officer Inspector Darren Williams said the offenders demanded cash from a safe room.

"The employee told the offenders he didn't have access to the money inside the safe," Inspt. Williams said.

"One of the offenders then struck the employee to the back of the head with the machete."

The staff member called police and was taken by ambulance to the Coffs Harbour Hospital where he received treatment for a large cut to the back of his head.

"During the robbery the offenders stole the employee's wallet and his car, a silver VZ Holden Commodore sedan with registration plates ATF-33W, which was recovered by police on Wednesday behind the Toormina Community Hall off Toormina Rd," Inspt. Williams said.

He said the offenders were described as being of Aboriginal appearance and urged anyone who saw the stolen car in question to contact Coffs Harbour Police.

"It's a very concerning crime, that caused a great deal of distress to the victim, it's particularly concerning to the public that a firearm was used and police will do everything in our power to put the offenders before the courts and get this particular firearm off the streets," Inspt. Williams said.
