Thousands pour into the Gold Coast for Schoolies

SCHOOLIES began arriving at the Gold Coast in their thousands last night as Schoolies Week celebrations begin.

Queensland Police say they will be monitoring the former students as thousands more are expected to arrive today as well.

One 17-year-old schoolie was arrested on The Esplanade after police discovered tablets they believed to be MDMA and a sum of cash on his person.

He has been charged with four drug-related offences including possess dangerous drug, possess property used in connection (with drugs) and possess proceeds.

Last night 12 non-schoolies were arrested on 23 charges.

The majority of non-schoolies arrests were to do with public nuisance and drug possession.

In a statement police have reiterated they will not hesitate to enforce drug laws against anyone found possessing, supplying, trafficking, or producing drugs.
