Anglers from across country sign up for top comp at Ballina
ANGLERS from across the country will be aiming to reel in a share of $100,000 of prizes when the 2014 North Coast Fishing Bonanza casts off tonight.
The Ballina-based event is Australia's largest catch and photograph fishing tournament.
Organiser Michael Starkey said an even bigger crowd was expected this year.
"This is our fifth year," Mr Starkey said. "We've had more pre-entrants this year than ever before.
"We're hoping again for between 300 and 400."
When: Sign on from 1pm to 6.30pm today. Fishing starts at 8pm. Main presentation and random prize draw at 3.30pm on Sunday.
Where: Ballina Fawcett Park next to public jetty on river.

Mr Starkey said about 330 competitors cast their lines in the event last year.
"And that's just paid competitors," he said. "We would have had at least 500 people."
More than $70,000 is in random prizes, the biggest being a $27,000 boat package in the adult draw and an $11,000 boat for cadets.
Adult fishing categories include snapper, pearl perch, mulloway, tailor, sambo, king cobia, whiting, bream, flathead, blackfish, bass and one for most meritorious.
The cadet category includes snapper, mulloway, tailor, whiting, bream, flathead, blackfish and bass plus most meritorious. Junior fishers will be baiting for whiting, bream, flathead and bass plus most meritorious.
Last year a trawl of winners received product from Samurai rods, Atomic packs, Shimano estuary packs, Penn Combos, Mako Eyewear, Engel fridges and Eskys from the Ice Box Bloke.
