The Empire Strips Back with burlesque parody at Pilbeam

IN a galaxy far, far away... Darth Vader and his stormtroopers took to the stage.

Your favourite characters from Star Wars are about to strip and show off their burlesque moves.

The Empire Strips Back: A Star Wars Burlesque Parody started three years ago as a bit of fun for director Russall Beattie.

"We try and stick close to the material but it's more from a character point of view," Russall said.

"Things like the sex of the characters (has changed)."

Russall is excited to see people react to the show because they "don't know what they're going to get".

"People go to Star Wars and they have no idea; they come with their own ideas in their head," he said.

"The old version of the show ended up playing over 100 shows and thousands of tickets sold and that was a small show we made that was meant for a three-night run.

"Last May I decided I wanted a new version of the show, destroyed all of our props and costumes and it forced us to start from scratch."

Russall's keen interest in burlesque ignited while living in the UK, and he eventually bought his own venue in Australia.

"I've created my own concepts (when it comes to burlesque shows)," Russall said.

"There will be plenty of laughs and the audience will be in awe."
