Temperature plummets to a two-year record low

TEMPERATURES plummeted this week with Gladstone experiencing a two-year record low on Wednesday.

Bureau of Meteorology Rockhampton weather observer Benj Blunt said Gladstone recorded the coldest reading of the year of 9 degrees Celsius yesterday morning.

Readers reported even cooler temperatures within the wider region on The Observer Facebook page.

Kym Wood-Longmore posted it was 5.4 at Boyne Island in the morning, while Tracey Holden said it was 5.5 in Calliope and Laura Holmes posted it was 2 in Builyan.

Mr Blunt said the last time it was this cool in the city was when the temperature dropped to 8.6 in July 2012 and the all-time record is 4.4 recorded on July 13 in 1960.

Even though the weather should warm up from today due to a dry air pressure system moving south, don't pack up the woollen socks just yet.

The temperature is expected to drop again around Tuesday next week.
