Police say teens as young as 15 involved internet drug ring

TWENTY-seven people have been charged with 105 offences after a internet focused drug operation.

Police from State Crime Command's Drug and Serious Crime Group have closed a major operation focused on drug traffickers using the internet to advertise and facilitate the distribution of dangerous drugs throughout Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Operation North Seamonk stared in June and has seen 21 search warrants executed throughout Brisbane and the Gold Coast on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

A sophisticated hydroponic cannabis growing system containing approximately 221 cannabis plants valued at approximately $1.1m was also located at a Redbank Plains address.

Approximately $1.12m worth of drugs including methylamphetamine, MDMA, LSD and cannabis and $10,000 worth of assets and cash have been seized as part of the operation.

Small quantities of drugs including methylamphetamine, MDMA, LSD and cannabis were seized during the enforcement action.

More than 60 police officers from the Drug and Serious Crime Group, Brisbane Region and Operations Support Command were involved.

Among the 105 offences are 35 charges of supply dangerous drugs.

Detective Superintendent Wacker of the State Crime Command's Drug and Serious Crime Group said he was disturbed to find teenagers involved in the drug ring.

"We have allegedly identified people as young as 15 distributing dangerous drugs in this way and we are greatly concerned that these sites are easily accessible to school aged children.

"With Schoolies celebrations now upon us, we will be vigilant in our efforts to target those who use these internet sites to buy and sell these drugs," Detective Superintendent Wacker of State Crime Command's Drug and Serious Crime Group said.

Investigations are continuing with a number of further arrests expected.
