Team Kyrgios finally finds success in Premier League tennis

THE third round of Northern Rivers Premier League tennis at Ballina on Saturday pitted the two bottom-placed teams against each other and, as expected, it was close.

Team Kyrgios notched up its first victory against Team Djokovic. With three matches and six sets each, it came down to games won and Team Kyrgios prevailed 47 to 43.

In the No 1 match-ups, Ballina's Frank Schultheiss had to step up from his normal No 2 spot and take on a red-hot Doug Skipper of Murwillumbah, who won in straight sets.

Nathan Moore of Lismore seemed determined to return to his top game after a surprise loss last week. He looked like he was back to his best witha routine victory over outstanding Tweed junior Cody Atkinson.

Brendan Moore always looked in control against Ballina junior Manu Rowe with a 6-1 6-3 win for his top-placed Team Tsonga.

Another standout performer was East Lismore 'super-sub' Dave Oliver, who etched out a solid 7-5 6-3 win over talented Mullumbimby junior Teva Leibo.

Miles Brown, another promising junior under the guidance of Casino coach Brendan Lee, stepped up and dispatched Murwill-umbah's Lachlan Henderson. Brown remains undefeated and earned the player of the day award.

The fourth round will be played at the Lismore Tennis Club on Saturday starting at 10.30am.

  • Team Tsonga 20
