Tax law amendments hope to help flood victims

DISASTER payments to households, small businesses and farmers recovering from the recent Queensland and New South Wales floods will be exempt from income tax.

The measure was part of a suite of tax law amendments introduced in the Parliament by Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury on Wednesday.

"Those communities that were hardest hit during recent natural disasters deserve a helping hand to get them back on their feet," Mr Bradbury said.

The amendments will be considered by the House of Representatives over coming weeks.
