Talking about Shaws Bay

MORE than 100 people have responded to a questionnaire on Shaws Bay.

The questionnaire, which closed this week, was put out by Hydro-sphere Consulting, a Ballina firm engaged by Ballina Shire Council to draw up a new management plan for Ballina's Shaws Bay.

Mick Howland, the managing director of Hydrosphere, said about 50 people attended a drop-in session at the Ballina Surf Club last week, with 30 staying for a round-table discussion.

Mr Howland said issues which were brought up included the current debate on whether to ban fishing, siltation, water quality, mangroves and sea grass.

"We will look at all the results and present a draft report to council around mid-June," Mr Howland said.

He said the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan for Shaws Bay would then go on public display for about four to six weeks.
