LENNOX Head surfer Tyler Wright had her first win of the season taking out the Vans US Open of Surfing.
It was her third final of the year after she was runner-up at the Rip Curl Pro and Margaret River Pro events in April.
The win moves Wright from fourth to third on the World Championship Tour.
She had to overcome five-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore in the final at Huntington Beach, California.
"It's been a long event and really enjoyable for me," Wright said.
"I wouldn't be here without my team and they mean the world to me.
"All the girls have been ripping this entire event and it's been wonderful to see.
"I felt really relaxed and comfortable and everything has gone really well for me this week and I loved it."
Wright finished with a 14.77 (out of a possible 20) while Gilmore couldn't get past 13.16.
She beat Hawaiian surfer Malia Manuel in the semi-final after getting past current world champion Carissa Moore in the quarter-finals.
"I always love surfing against Carissa and we always seem to meet up," Wright said.
"Generally we're on the other side of the draw and meet up in the final."
The Vans US Open of Surfing is the sixth of 10 stops on the ASP Women's WCT.
The next event is the Swatch Women's Pro in California in September while the men have the Billabong Pro in Tahiti this month.
Lennox Head surfer Adam Melling also achieved his best result of the year finishing third in the men's event.
